Get Ready for a New Era
The California Bar Exam is undergoing some significant changes, starting with the February 2025 administration. These changes are designed to modernize the exam and make it more accessible to test-takers. Here's a breakdown of what you need to know:
Remote or In-Person? You Choose!
One of the biggest changes is that the exam will now be offered both remotely and in person. You'll have the flexibility to choose the format that works best for you. In-person exams will be conducted at vendor-run or State Bar-run test centers.
Exam Structure
The exam will be a two-day event:
Day 1: Written Portion
Five one-hour essay questions
One 90-minute Performance Test
Day 2: Multiple-Choice Portion
200 multiple-choice questions
Administered over four 90-minute sessions
Attorney Applicants
If you're an attorney applicant, you'll only need to take the written portion of the exam.
Scoring and Grading
The written and multiple-choice portions of the exam will be weighted equally. The passing score will remain a total scaled score of 1390 or better out of 2000 points.
What These Changes Mean for You
